The Story Behind the Photos

January 21, 1977, a Friday night, I was out cruising for news. Boston Fire struck a box for a fire on East Sixth Street in South Boston and I was on my way.

Before it was over three people died that night and a fourth would die after being rescued from the fire two weeks later.

There were gallant efforts by the Boston Fire Department to save three year old Tammi Kurtz and 33 years a grown-up Tammi found me and we helped each other in learning things about the fire. Tammi’s quest for information about her family came to fruition.
